Literacy is not an optional extra, it is a right. Yet too often, pupils with complex needs are positioned outside of meaningful literacy instruction due to assumptions about cognition, communication or capacity. Join us online for 30 minutes this Thursday 16th April from 15.30 to 16.00 (BST) for this special session with Chantal Bryan, OBE and Sarah Giles from Teach Us Too. We`re looking forward to our annual event Communication Works. It`s a great opportunity for the SEND community to come together and see first-hand how our children and young people use assistive technology (AT) and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) to access the curriculum and/or communicate. It provides a platform to celebrate their achievements and for them to get seen and be heard. The North Event in Greater Manchester is coming up on Friday 22nd May and the South Event at Charlton Athletic Football Club in Charlton, South East London is on Wednesday 24th June. Please save the date and get your free ticket/s: https://mycenmac.com/CW2026

We are delighted that CENMAC Student Ambassador Khamani Edwards has become an official member of the CENMAC Team! He is now CENMAC`s Student Voice Lead and he will be working 1 day per week at CENMAC to help ensure that the children and young people we support are heard, involved and empowered to influence real change (the other days he is very busy being CEO of his own amazing business KJ`s Craft Time)! Khamani is off to a great start as he opened a SENCO session at Southwark for Primary SENCOS and spoke about his own experience of making use of assistive technology and how it has had such a positive impact on his life. Well done Khamani!! π π π

We`re planning a great programme of seminars at Communication Works South at the Charlton Athletic Football Club on Wednesday 24th June 2026. We`re delighted that Laura Brown, parent of Ethan, an autistic 6-year-old, who is non-speaking and a proud AAC user will be presenting. AAC advocacy is now at the heart of all Laura does to fight for her son, but also for all individuals who would benefit from access to an AAC device. She set up the online community Spinning World of Autism to help share her story. Find out more and get your free tickets: https://mycenmac.com/CW2026
