Communication and Interaction
In this section you will find Assistive Technologies (AT) to support schools and provisions in providing more inclusive and total communication environments. We also cover Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems to meet individual needs and many technologies which can support them, when starting out with AAC systems.
We also include many of the paper-based resources as these are just as important alongside any power based or battery-operated technologies.
Children and young people who experience speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) may face barriers to participation and inclusion when environments, systems, or attitudes do not support diverse ways of communicating.
These barriers can make it harder for them to express themselves, understand others, or engage in social interaction.
An individual’s communication profile is unique and may vary over time. By adapting communication methods, creating total communication environments, and fostering understanding, we can reduce these barriers and support every child to connect and thrive.
