Great ideas to support AAC Awareness

Ahead of AAC Awareness Month in October Student Ambassador Khamani and AAC Consultant Abdi Omar sat down to have a chat about the ISAAC theme for 2024 “Vibes of AAC” (#AACaware24).

Abdi Omar has cerebral palsy and is unable to speak in the usual way, so he uses a power based AAC device to support his communication.

In this short video they talk about how schools can celebrate by holding events such as a morning or afternoon tea at school. They encourage the whole school learn more about AAC and celebrate their AAC users. They offer some great ideas and good advice on supporting AAC users at your school.

You can help Khamani and Abdi spread AAC awareness by printing out their poster to hang on classroom walls and staff rooms to draw people’s attention to their great video for schools to watch!
